Introduction

"Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists). He has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, Who has taught (the writing) by the pen. He has taught man that which he knew not."

[Surah Al-Alaq | 96: 1-5]

Taught By: Mr. Limam; Graduate from Madinah University, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Students need to learn The Noble Qur'an to extend and enhance their Islamic Knowledge. Using the resources for Qu'ran in a variety of ways prepares students to develop Qur'anic skills and Knowledge, which will insha-Allah safeguard their strong faith, bring about the enjoyment of a secure Islamic environment and fulfil the ethos of the school. Therefore the school is committed to provide appropriate, authentic rich Qur'an resources in order to offer the highest level of Qur'anic knowledge to all students.

Our aim is to help students revive hearts and cleanse souls by sustained intimacy with the Qur'an and perseverance in understanding the Qur'anic teachings and its cultural profundity, based on the Prophet's directions.

Aims & Objectives:

  • Develop a sound knowledge of the history of the Qur'anic Text;
  • Develop a sound knowledge of the studies of the Qur'an, including Balagah (Rhetoric), moral and social values;
  • Develop a great respect for the Qu'ran;
  • Enable students to become autonomous readers of the Qur'an, gaining confidence and enjoyment from various activities including memorisation, Tafseer, and recitation;
  • Use Qur'anic studies as a tool to support moral teaching.
  • To achieve the above aims, we will insha Allah ensure students:
  • Understand that the learning and teaching of the Qur'an should be for the sake of Allah, appreciating that the purification of one’s intention and correcting one’s desire is obligatory;
  • Be encouraged to utilize the authentic resources’ guidelines in understanding the Qur'an;
  • Be encouraged to avoid interpreting the Qur'an by personal opinions;
  • Share the propagation of the message of the Qur'an in the family, our school, and community;
  • Be introduced to instances of the miracle of the verses and scientific prophesies of the Qur'an;
  • Encourage and invite students to 'Tadabbur-i-Qur'an (Reflection on the Qur'an);
  • Understand that every verse or group of verses and every brah has a definitive context and that interpretation of any portion of the Qur'an must be based on a correct understanding of that context;
  • Discuss Qur'anic issues and organize Qur'anic affairs such as memorisation competitions;
  • Use knowledge available to help understand the wisdom behind certain Qur'anic teachings;
  • Use knowledge to understand new areas that were never known before;
  • Be aware that some Qur'anic verses have been taken out of context to prove particular juristic opinions or sectarian notions and that some of its terms and phrases have been misconstrued by those who come to it seeking support for views they have already formed on other than Qur'an grounds;
  • Develop the ability to purge the lies, fabrication and confusion created by uninformed people who use the Qur'an as a reference to pass their lies;
  • Understand the principles of Tajweed, i.e. articulating every letter from its articulation point and giving the letter its rights and dues of characteristics;
  • Apply Tajweed rules to guard and preserve the Qur'an from distortion.

Assessment:

Assessing, monitoring and recording students’ progress in Qur'an is carried out regularly on a lesson by lesson basis, based on the lesson objectives and outcomes in the Qur'an scheme of work. These are conducted informally by the class teacher and are used to inform future planning. Written tests are planned at the end of each of all the units of work to enable summative assessments that are used in reporting to parents.
