2014-8-28 - Welcome back September 2014-2015!

Assalamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu

I would like to welcome you back for the new academic year and hope you all had a restful and ‘eemaan-boosting’ holiday. The first day of term for students is Wednesday 3rd September 2014 at 8:30am. There have been many exciting changes and additions made to the school this year and we hope to make this the best year ever inshaaAllah!

GCSE results

Alhamdulillah, we saw our students pass their GCSE’s with brilliant results mashaa-Allah. The boys achieved 100% A*-C grade passes in at least 5 subjects as expected. 86% of all our English grades were A*/A as well as 76% of all our mathematics grades. Overall 62% of all grades in the school were A*/A mashaa-Allah. May Allah reward and bless all of our students, parents, teachers and staff for all their hard work.

New Year 7

I would like also like to take this opportunity to welcome our new students and parents to Brondesbury College. Alhamdulillah we have a great team of teachers that will assist your son with all they need and to ensure they settle in with ease. We look forward to meeting you and getting to know all our Year 7 parents on our Welcome Evening on, Tuesday 16th September 2013, 4:45-6pm.

Changes and updates

I also wanted to take this opportunity to highlight some of the changes that have and will be taking place this year. These include:

  • 5 new toilets in Zone 2
  • 4 new showers for pupils in zone 2
  • Air conditioning units in the Masjid and in some of the Zone 2 classrooms
  • a new sheltered area in Zone 2 with seating for students to sit, eat and play.
  • a new wudhu area and water fountain in Zone 2
  • The playground area has now been doubled; the back playground can now be used for ball games as new caging and overhead nets have been put in. There is also more space as the shed has been removed.
  • There is a new Brondesbury College website which will be a lot more interactive. You will be able to view upcoming events and important dates.
  • New ties have been introduced in the school uniform. These are compulsory for all students to wear and can be ordered via the John Lewis website.
  • Our first ever trips calendar is included in this pack, which includes residential trips for year 9 and 11, a Team Building trip for year 7 and a trip to Istanbul for year 10. We also have various educational trips planned for all years throughout the year. There is also an Umrah trip planned in February which is open for all students to attend.
  • Smart phones will no longer be allowed to be brought into school. If a student is caught with a smart phone, it will be confiscated and will only be returned at the end of term.
  • Medical room has been refurbished.
  • This year we are pushing for our teaching and learning to be outstanding InshaAllah.

KSM online

We would like to make full use of our School Kompanion (KSM) system Insha’Allah. It is very important that you regularly use this portal. It allows parents, students and teachers to track and monitor students’ progress, attendance, behaviour, view announcements and access various documents for all subjects. Username and Passwords have been given out previously, however if you require it please do not hesitate to contact the school and we will give it to you. Usernames and passwords will be given to the year 7 students on the first day of school insha’Allah.

Contacting the school

Please be informed that parents are able to contact myself via email at a.ali@brondesburycollege.co.uk. For all appointments, please email pa@brondesburycollege.co.uk or alternatively call to speak to the PA, who will arrange a suitable appointment for you. Parents are also able to contact all teachers via email when necessary. Teacher’s email addresses can be found on our website. The Form tutor is the first point of contact for all parents and any concerns or issues should be made aware to your son&rsqursquo;s Form Tutor first.

We do hope to communicate regularly with parents, outlining important news and providing you with updates. These will be included in the weekly Jummah Bulletin as well as our term updates. Our usual form of communication to all parents is through various letters that are posted out, however we will also continue to use our email, text and KSM services.

Please do also note: Teachers may occasionally leave messages in student diaries, which must be checked and signed by all parents regularly.

All letters will now also be uploaded on to the school’s new website.

I would like to ask all parents to ensure the school has your latest email address and mobile phone number so that you are able to receive updates via email or text. If you have not done so, please provide these details by either calling the school or send an email to pa@brondesburycollege.co.uk.

What now?

  1. Please ensure your son is in full school uniform. This includes conformity to the school’s grooming policy including haircuts/styles. All pupils must be wearing the new school ties before Monday 15th September. Please note, no other additional uniform will be required to be purchased unless there is a need i.e. if the pupil has ‘outgrown’ the uniform. Please see the attached uniform documents for more details. Any pupils not conforming to the school uniform policy will be sent home immediately.

  1. Please have a look at the term dates and important dates and place them at an easily accessible location.

  1. Please have a look at the trips calendar and complete and return the medical forms for the trips.

  1. Please complete and return the permission slip for school website photography.

  1. Please complete and return the target setting day letter.

  1. Please complete and return the school evaluation form if you have not already done so at the end of last academic year.

  1. Please email pa@brondesburycollege.co.uk if you do not have the username and password for KSM online.

If you have any queries regarding the above please do not hesitate to contact the school via telephone or email.
