Eid and Culture Day Celebration

Eid and Culture Day Celebration

Wednesday, 3 June

Today, our students arrived early in the morning dressed in their beautiful traditional clothing and Eid outfits, creating a vibrant and joyful atmosphere throughout the school. The corridors were filled with colours, cultures, and traditions from around the world, bringing back wonderful memories of our ancestors and celebrating the rich diversity within our school community.

At Islamia Girls School, we are proud to celebrate important religious and cultural occasions throughout the year. As one of the first Islamic schools in the UK to place such importance on special days, celebrations, and community events, we believe these experiences play a vital role in our students' personal development. They provide valuable opportunities for students to build confidence, develop leadership skills, strengthen friendships, and create a lasting sense of sisterhood and belonging.

A highlight of the day was a fantastic assembly delivered by our Year 9 students. They shared fascinating information about cultures from around the world, including countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, and beyond. Students learned about traditional foods, dances, customs, famous landmarks, and influential figures from different nations. The assembly was both educational and engaging, helping everyone to appreciate the beauty and uniqueness of different cultures.

To conclude the assembly, students took part in a fun and interactive quiz. Each year group competed enthusiastically, and prizes were awarded to the winning participants, adding excitement and enjoyment to the learning experience.

During lunchtime, all students, teachers, and staff were invited to enjoy a delicious complimentary lunch in the canteen. The lunch provided a wonderful opportunity for everyone to come together, share stories, learn words and phrases from different languages, compare accents, and even teach one another traditional dances such as the Dabkeh. It was heartwarming to see our school community united in celebration, respect, and friendship.

Importantly, the day's celebrations did not affect our academic standards. Year 10 students continued with their end-of-year examinations during Periods 3 and 4, while all other year groups attended their lessons as normal. This reflects the excellent balance that Islamia Girls School maintains between celebrating cultural identity and achieving academic excellence.

Today was a wonderful reminder that learning extends beyond the classroom. By celebrating Eid and Culture Day together, our students gained a deeper understanding of different cultures, strengthened their bonds of sisterhood, and created memories that will stay with them for years to come.

We are incredibly proud of our students for embracing diversity, showing respect for one another, and demonstrating that it is possible to have fun while maintaining the high standards and academic progress for which Islamia Girls School is known.
