Religious Studies at our school provides students with a broad understanding of world religions and ethical perspectives, with a particular emphasis on Islam.
"He gives wisdom to whom He wills, and whoever has been given wisdom has certainly been given much good. And none will remember except those of understanding."
The Noble Qur’an [2: 269]
The curriculum encourages respect, critical thinking, and reflection, helping students appreciate religious diversity while deepening their knowledge and practice of Islamic teachings. By exploring faith-based values and moral issues, students are guided to develop strong character, a confident Islamic identity, and a commitment to positive contribution in society.
In 2024, 95% of students achieved grades 9-7, with 100% attaining grades 9-6. You can see our school performance figures for 2024 GCSE exams here.
At KS3, students study a range of major world religions to develop a broad understanding of different beliefs and practices, alongside a strong foundation in Islamic studies. Within the Islamic component of the curriculum, students cover key topics such as the Pillars of Islam, Articles of Iman, aspects of fiqh, and Islamic history.
Ethical and contemporary issues are also explored through discussions and structured debates, encouraging students to think critically and express their views with confidence and respect.
In Year 9, students begin the GCSE course content, starting with Paper 1: Islam, which provides a deeper insight into Islamic beliefs, practices, and teachings.
Students continue with the GCSE Religious Studies curriculum. The course is structured around Paper 2: Christianity, which provides a comparative understanding of another major world religion, and Paper 3: Textual Studies, focusing on key passages from the Qur’an, their meanings, context, and application.
Students are encouraged to engage critically with a range of moral, philosophical, and contemporary issues throughout the course. Lessons also include discussion, reflection, and exam-focused skills to prepare students for success in their final assessments.
